General Responsibilities
The Waterfront Director plans, develops, and carries out a comprehensive program of waterfront activities focused on activities to encourage member participation and services to members. The Waterfront Director oversees the operation of all aspects of sailing at St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club including maintenance of the club’s sailing fleet and support boats, direction of educational programs, and support for race and regatta committees and activities necessary to maintain GYA status. The Waterfront Director recommends an annual budget needed to support a comprehensive waterfront program.
Major Duties:
Sailing Activities:
Attend all sailing activities meetings, junior activities meetings, race management meetings, and clubhouse meetings.
Junior Activities
Organize, direct, and maintain a successful youth sailing program for Optimist, Lasers and 420’s.
Manage a successful summer sailing program including hiring summer youth directors, managing registrations, and providing direction. The program consists of 15-25 sailors year round and approximately 100 hundred in the summer sailing programs ages 5 to 17 years old.
Adult Activities
Encourage adult participation in race and regatta events.
Develop program/programs to increase adult interest and participation in the sailing activities.
Maintenance of Sailing Fleet and Support Boats:
Maintain the clubs sailing fleet, including rigging and maintaining all club owned boats in readiness condition. Coordinate maintenance as needed.
Maintain the support boats in working order and coordinate any maintenance activities as needed.
Membership Activities and Services
Develop waterfront activities in conjunction with Membership/Activities Director to encourage membership participation. Develop and implement at least 9 events designed to bring non-sailing members to the waterfront.
Oversee appearance and usability of waterfront facilities.
Time Requirements
Labor Day through Memorial Day - 35 hours per week
Memorial Day through Labor Day -52 hours per week
This would include a scheduled evening of weekly race management.
Reviews
First review would be 30 days after employment, then 90 days after initial review, and thereafter annually. These reviews will be the responsibility of the Club Manager.
Supervision
The Waterfront Director will report directly to the Club Manager. The club manager will provide day-to-day supervision regarding hours, benefits, vacation, etc
Salary/Benefits
Starting salary is negotiable and includes a full benefit package after a 90 day probation period
Qualifications
US Sailing Level 1 instructor certification, first aid and CPR training from American Red Cross. Should have a high degree of knowledge and experience in dinghy sailing and racing. Knowledgeable of boat care and maintenance. The position requires someone who is organized, self-motivated and capable of following through with program objectives and duties without direct supervision. The Waterfront Director must possess strong communication skills to interact with members including children and adults and have the ability to plan, organize and promote activities. Director should be able to teach, encourage, and challenge non-experience and experienced sailors in a fun filled atmosphere.
