2004 KO V15 Southern Circuit #2
Corpus Christi YC
June 12 & 13, 2004

If you did not make the Corpus Christi V15 Circuit Stop, you missed out on a lot of fun! You could not beat the weather!  Saturday the winds were anywhere from 15 knots gusting to 23 knots. Sunday was a bit lighter, 7 to 10 knots but gradually picked up but too late for some ...... I wonder who  !!!!!!

On Saturday, we raced Gold cups, which allowed a lot of passing to be made on the reaches. The races were close and lots of fun!  A couple of boats got to practice the man   overboard and scoop method which was entertaining to some.

Chris Flynn and Rachel Marsden took top honors in winning the first race. I think that we felt bad for Chris considering it was his 18th birthday on Friday and his Friday did not go too well. Just picking, he sailed a great race!  Matt Cunningham and Becky Wingstrom won the second race. The third race went to Wulf Focke and John Reinhard (Team Beef Cake). The last two races went to Mike Curtin and Dani Ellis. I would have to say that the youth definitely topped out at this regatta. They partied and hiked harder than the old veterans in the fleet.

It was very nice to see CCYC Commodore Mike McCutchon teamed up with Scott Cheney out on the racecourse. I think that they may have been the heaviest boat out there racing but that didn't slow them down. They were always in the hunt and put together a great regatta. Looking forward to seeing them at HYC for the next circuit stop. Right!

Saturday night, Todd rented out a bar for us! Just picking ..... However, Todd did organize $3.00 pitchers, $1.75 shots and some free pool at the local bar Q's which by the way was stumbling distance to all the Hotels and the Yacht Club!  Ha, wasn't that perfectly planned!

Races on Sunday were early and too early for some! The winds were much lighter and some had to redeem themselves for their performance on Saturday. My crew, Kristin Burke and myself went out winning the first race and leading most of the second race but lost it to Chris Flynn and Rachel Marsden.  It was a close race and it came down to one mistake!

To wrap things up here is how it ended! Mike Curtin and Dani Ellis sailed an very excellent regatta winning two races out of seven races with their worst race being a third, so they won the regatta. Chris Flynn and Rachel Marsden fought their way from third to finish in second. Wulf Focke and John Reinhard finished close behind Chris and Rachel in third. Excellent regatta guys and gals!

The Harken Road warrior Award went to Andy Buckingham who drove from Abilene and Kristin Burke who came from Austin.

The Over Achiever Award went to Todd Fedyszn who put together this stop at Corpus and Rebecca Hollie who filled in as a crew for Andy on last minute.

I hope that everyone can make the next circuit stop in Houston on July 10 - 11th  @ HYC. Some big plans are being made and expect a great regatta! Housing will be made available for the out of towners.

Thanks to everyone who attended Corpus and those who helped out at the regatta! Great Fun!
