GYA Event Schedule – Help Guide

← Back to Schedule

Overview

The GYA Event Schedule page displays sailing events organized by the Gulf Yachting Association. You can browse upcoming and past events, filter by year, month, club, or event type, search for specific events, and export or subscribe to the schedule.

When you first visit the page, it displays events from the past week forward. Use the filter controls at the top to narrow or broaden the list.

Filtering Events

The filter bar at the top of the page lets you refine which events are shown. Filters update the table automatically — no need to click a button.

ControlDescription
Year Choose a specific year or leave on Years to see events from one week ago onward (default). Selecting a year shows all events for that entire year.
Month Optionally narrow results to a single month. Works in combination with Year. If no year is selected, the month filter applies across all years.
Cap (checkbox) Check this box to show only Capdevielle events (marked with a star). These are special qualifying events within the GYA Capdevielle Trophy series.
Clubs Filter events hosted by a specific club. The dropdown lists clubs that have events in the current year.
Reset Clears all filters and reloads the page with the default view (past week forward).
Tip: Filters combine with each other. For example, selecting 2026 + March + a club shows only that club's events in March 2026.

The search box (labeled "Search for events...") provides instant, client-side filtering. As you type, the table immediately hides any rows that do not contain your search text. This searches across all visible columns — dates, event names, types, classes, and host clubs.

Reading the Event Table

Each row in the schedule table represents one sailing event. Here's what each column shows:

ColumnDescription
Date Start date (and end date if multi-day), displayed as Mon D-D, YY (e.g., "Mar 14-16, 26"). May include holiday badges.
Event Name Name of the event. A gold star indicates a Capdevielle series event. Sanctioned events are styled distinctly.
Event Type Category of the event (e.g., Regatta, Distance Race, Junior, etc.).
Classes Boat classes eligible for the event.
Host The club or clubs hosting the event, shown as clickable links to the club's website when available.
Links Document links for the event. Possible link labels:
  • nor — Notice of Race
  • si — Sailing Instructions
  • reg — Registration form
  • ent — Online entry / entry list
  • res — Results
  • evtlnk — Event site (RegattaNetwork, ClubSpot, etc.)
  • track — Live race tracking
Links may open in the same window or a new tab depending on the document type.
Note: Rows alternate between white and shaded backgrounds for readability. The table header sticks to the top of the page as you scroll, so column labels remain visible.

Holiday Highlighting

Events that overlap with or fall near U.S. holidays are highlighted for easy identification:

FAQ & Troubleshooting

Why do I only see a few events when I first load the page?

By default, the page shows events from one week ago onward. To see more events, select a year from the Year dropdown.

What does the ★ star mean next to an event name?

The gold star indicates a Capdevielle event — part of a special series within the GYA. You can filter to show only these events using the Cap checkbox.

What does "sanctioned" mean?

Sanctioned events are officially recognized by the GYA and may have distinct styling in the table to differentiate them from other events.

The club dropdown doesn't show the club I'm looking for.

The Clubs dropdown only lists clubs that have events scheduled in the current calendar year. If a club hosted events in a different year, they won't appear in the dropdown.

How do I see events from a different year?

Use the Year dropdown to select any year that has events in the database. All available years are listed.

Can I bookmark a filtered view?

The filters use dynamic AJAX updates and are not reflected in the URL. To return to a specific filtered view, you'll need to reapply the filters. However, the Subscribe and Export buttons will capture your current filter selections.

The page looks broken or data isn't loading.

Does this page work on mobile devices?

Yes. The schedule is responsive and adapts to smaller screens. The filter bar scrolls horizontally if needed, and the table displays with labeled data on narrow screens.
